A new film, chronicling a number of fascinating old folktales from the Salzburg-Berchtesgaden region is now in full production! Based on the Podcast episode "Sagor från Untersberg - Del 1" (In swedish), the film documents how podcast host and now filmmaker Linus Borgström came to visit the Untersberg and after making a strange connection to the mountain started to investigate the history and folklore of the region.
"I soon realized that the amount of available material and research in English, relating to the Untersberg was close to zero. The mountain it seemed; had called out to me, urging me to share it's stories with the world. And so I shall."
The rich folklore of the area has been chronicled by noted researchers such as Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Rudolf von Freisauff and Nikolaus Huber and describes meetings with strange dwarves, sleeping emperors, spirits, giants and wild men and women living in and around the mountain. They wander to town at night, haunt the forest paths and swampy marshlands, ride with thunderous noise through the night and spirit away those who wonder beyond the road most travelled. The Untersberg truly has a story for everyone!
Tales from the Untersberg is produced by Frontier // Unknown and written/directed by Linus Borgström. The film is slated for a Free release on Youtube in 2021. Make sure to subscribe to the Youtube channel to make sure you don't miss it!
